Exceptional offers from the Maritime Antiques auction listings
Sale items in this section, which are taken from various listings we've discovered on eBay, have received a lot of bids, or at least one bid at a high amount. We take such interesting boating and nautical antiques and add a short article here, with information about the auction's bidding activity. When the auction is finished, we update the article to add what the outcome was — the final price, number of bids, and whether or not the reserve price was met (if not, the item may reappear in our listings).
You can use this section to research the final price of old boat collectibles or, if you sign up for the RSS feed, see the newest and most popular items while the auctions are still live on eBay.

eBay pounces on illegal scrimshaw auctions

Update: all auctions closed early!
We were going to post updates on these 5 auctions from “arik619″ once a day until they were finished, but all the auctions have been closed. Apparently the seller was misleading about the origin and provenance of his scrimshaw, and was trying to sell illegal pieces.
Evidently eBay shut the auctions down and cancelled all the bids.
So our plan has turned into a big nothing. But at least we now know that eBay does apparently try to stay vigilant and not promote the killing of whales for crafts.
We’ll look for some other auction to track soon. In the meantime check out some legal scrimshaw for sale. And we’ll try to choose a seller next time who isn’t such a loser.

There is currently a special collection of 5 pieces of scrimshaw for auction on eBay. The pieces are being sold in individual auctions by user arik619, and each has an opening bid of $100. We will be tracking the auctions’ progress here on www.Maritime-Antiques.com until they are finished in about 9 days from now.
Each piece is an orca whale tooth. All are Alaskan Inuit pieces. The seller is in La Jolla, California, and will ship worldwide.
